Mach9 raises $34M Series A for AI software that turns road and utility scans into CAD drawings
Announced · Published · By Contractor AI Shop
Mach9's software drafts curbs, signs, poles, lane markings and wires from 3D scans of roads, utilities and sites; surveyors and engineers then review and finalize the drawings. First Round Capital and Bessemer co-led the $34 million round, with Prudence and Quiet Capital. Total funding is $49 million.
Key facts
- Mach9 says teams have used it on more than 2,500 projects in all 50 states. Named customers include WSP, HNTB, NV5, Caltrans, Minnesota DOT and the Maryland State Highway Administration. Mach9
- On Interstate 8 in San Diego, Caltrans is using Mach9 to inventory rumble strips and other road-safety features, according to the company. Mach9
- Mach9 claims it produces drawings up to 10x faster at one-fifth the cost. That claim is the company's. Mach9
- TechCrunch reports the company started as Mach9 Robotics building inspection hardware, pivoted to AI CAD software, and has nearly 100 customers in its private beta. TechCrunch (Sean O'Kane)
- Construction Industry AI reports Mach9's site lists exports to DXF, DGN, Esri Feature Services and field-to-finish survey formats, and reads data from Trimble, RIEGL, Leica, NavVis and Phoenix scanners. Construction Industry AI (Hugo Pegley)
Our take: what it means for contractors
Relevant to civil and site contractors: the slow step is turning scans into survey drawings, not the scanning. Caltrans is already using it on I-8 in San Diego. It's built for survey and engineering firms, not GCs directly.
What we don't know yet
- Pricing (not published)
- Independent proof of the "up to 10x faster at one-fifth the cost" claim, which is Mach9's own
- When the private beta (nearly 100 customers, per TechCrunch) becomes generally available
