OpenAI introduces GPT-6 Cyber for scoped cybersecurity research agents
Announced · Published · By Contractor AI Shop
OpenAI launched GPT-6 Cyber, a cybersecurity model for finding and validating vulnerabilities inside researcher-set scope. Vendor benchmarks and the same 948 Linux LPE figure from the earlier pipeline post; access starts with select Daybreak Red customers. Safety/agent notice, not a construction product.
Key facts
- OpenAI introduced GPT-6 Cyber on Nov 5, 2026 as a cybersecurity model trained to find and validate exploitable vulnerabilities while staying inside researcher-set scope. OpenAI
- OpenAI reports ExploitGym 48.5% for GPT-6 Cyber vs 32.1% for GPT-5.6 Cyber (vendor figures). OpenAI
- OpenAI reports out-of-scope avoidance of 99.93% without its deployment prompt and 100% with that prompt on its ExploitGym Honeypot alignment eval (vendor figures). OpenAI
- OpenAI classifies the model as Critical under its Preparedness Framework (up from High for GPT-5.6 Cyber). OpenAI
- OpenAI says researchers used GPT-6 Cyber in the earlier Linux privilege-escalation pipeline that developed 948 LPE exploits (same 948 as the Nov 4/5 Linux LPE brief — frame as the named model behind that work, not a new count). OpenAI
- Initially available through the API and Codex to a select group of approved Daybreak Red customers, with broader Daybreak Red access planned. OpenAI
Our take: what it means for contractors
Safety follow-up to the Linux LPE pipeline brief. For contractors: keep office PCs, servers, and always-on local AI boxes patched; treat agent security news as a reminder, not a product to buy. Skip if you only want construction software listings.
What we don't know yet
- When Daybreak Red access expands beyond the initial select group
- Independent third-party replications of the vendor benchmark numbers
