Our take: what it means for contractors
This follows our Oct 30 brief on the shared robots.txt opt-out for AI training. The lawsuit's core allegation is that robots.txt only helps if the crawler identifies itself. If you care about AI companies reusing your site's project photos or pages, a robots.txt opt-out is still worth adding, but it isn't airtight. Nothing to do today; watch how the case goes.
What we don't know yet
- Brave's response; it hadn't commented in either report
- These are allegations that haven't been proven in court
- Whether the named AI companies used the data for training or for live answers is alleged, not shown
