Mistral released downloadable weights for Mistral Large 4 ("Le Chonk"), a roughly 1T-parameter mixture-of-experts model with about 49B active parameters (52B including embeddings and output layers) and 1M-token context. It ships in FP8 and NVFP4 under a modified MIT license. Model-as-a-Service businesses need a separate license.

Our take: what it means for contractors
It's the biggest open-weight release of the week, but it's data-center-class hardware territory, not a desk machine. Hugging Face lists community GGUF builds; we haven't tested any. For most contractors this matters only through the apps and agents built on it.
