NVIDIA at GTC Berlin: DGX Spark clusters of up to eight units, Model Launcher this month, DGX Station for Windows in December
Announced · Published · By Contractor AI Shop
At GTC Berlin, NVIDIA said DGX Spark now supports clusters of up to eight units in manual configuration, and NVIDIA Sync gets eight-unit support and a new Model Launcher later this month. DGX Station for Windows is expected from partners in December.
Key facts
- NVIDIA says an eight-unit DGX Spark cluster delivers 1TB of unified memory, aimed at small teams sharing one cluster as a backend. NVIDIA (Gerardo Delgado)
- Notebookcheck notes the 1TB figure is for 128GB units; eight of the new 64GB units top out at 512GB. Notebookcheck (Anil Ganti)
- NVIDIA says Model Launcher, for a single DGX Spark or a cluster, downloads a model and container suited to your setup and connects it to OpenCode in a few clicks. NVIDIA (Gerardo Delgado)
- NVIDIA's current Sync documentation still says Cluster Assistant supports two to a maximum of four DGX Spark devices, so eight-unit clusters are set up by hand for now. NVIDIA (docs)
- Notebookcheck notes NVIDIA gave no eight-system scaling benchmarks, and its speedup figures apply to specific models and workloads. Notebookcheck (Anil Ganti)
- Root-Nation reports the 64GB DGX Spark goes on sale Oct. 23 and that an eight-system cluster must be configured manually. Root-Nation (Julia Alexandrova)
- NVIDIA says DGX Station for Windows will support engineering and manufacturing apps from companies including Dassault Systèmes, Siemens and MathWorks. NVIDIA (Gerardo Delgado)
Our take: what it means for contractors
This is the GTC Berlin update to the DGX Spark 64GB we covered on Oct 16. Eight-unit clusters are for teams, not a typical contractor. The useful bit for anyone with one Spark is Model Launcher, which NVIDIA says sets up a fitting model and connects it to OpenCode in a few clicks.
What we don't know yet
- Eight-unit performance (NVIDIA gave no scaling benchmarks, per Notebookcheck)
- The exact Model Launcher release date
- DGX Station for Windows pricing
- When NVIDIA Sync's own docs move past four units
